Prince’s Trust in Pembrokeshire

The Prince’s Trust is well established in Pembrokeshire. It was established in 1986 and between 2000 and 2006 was located at Brunel Quay in Neyland before moving to a larger centre at Cleddau Reach in Pembroke Dock.

The centre offers a large portfolio of opportunities for young people in Pembrokeshire including specialist outdoor activity programmes. The centre is the largest and most active Prince’s Trust location in the UK.

Local Activities

The Trust runs six 12 week personal development courses for young people each year. Each team is supported by a team leader and an assistant. About 90 young people from Pembrokeshire are involved each year from a wide range of backgrounds and with a wide range of abilities

In addition around 70 teams (c.1000 young people) from all over southern UK come to Pembrokeshire for a week of outdoor team building activities each year. This work has been extended to include a wide range of activities for other groups and the centre has developed into the largest specialist centre in the UK using bunkhouse accommodation all over the county.

The Trust continues to expand its range of services for young people and is involved with the emerging alternative curriculum in schools, with young people in rural communities and with a core group who need a lot of support to make their lives work. The range of available support mechanisms for young people has increased and the centre is effectively “one stop shop” for those who need help and support. In this respect the Trust works very closely with a wide range of other agencies in the county.

The Trust aims to continue to develop its core ethos of working in partnership a wide range of other agencies to develop new ideas and initiatives and also hopes to expand the amount of community work which it is able to support in the county each year. In 2005 over 300 young people contributed more than 20,000 hours of voluntary work into local community projects.

Most importantly the Trust aims to continue to develop and support young people in the county through its dedicated staff team and will strive to help them develop their careers to encourage a continuing programme which has both individual and community benefits.
